Shore Haven, House Boat or Mobile Home?

After floating on the water, like a huge house boat yesterday, Shore Haven is waiting for the next leg of it's journey, on Tuesday.

This is Shore Haven's destination.

 The Caretaker's Cottage awaits.

I'm happy to know that I was not the only person who thought moving the Shore Haven house was interesting. Saw it on Channel 2 News last night and today

A Sanibel House on the Move!

I was out this morning with Puffin for a trip to Sanibel Coral Veterinary Clinic.
By the way, we LOVE these people. :)

On the way home I started thinking about the Shore Haven House again and wondered if they had moved it this morning.  Instead of making my usual right turn :), I went straight up to the end of Dixie Beach Rd, when I got to the end, where it reaches the Bay, I looked over and there was the house!

I drove up a little closer for another photo and there was Channel 2 car, they were definitely first.  :)  That made me smile.

I've seen houses moved many times before, but this is the first one I saw on a barge.
We did see a funny sight one day; a barge approaching the tall bridge with a HUGE tree on it. That was really a funny sight!

Since some have asked me why this house has any historical significance, I'm guessing that you did't follow the link for that info on my previous post.  The entire story is there.
Shore Haven is historical because it is a "kit house" sold by Sears Roebuck and erected on Sanibel in 1924, one of two that were known to been brought to Sanibel during that time.
It was, of course, modernized over the years, but will most likely be restored.  I can't wait to see it in the historical village.  If you come to Sanibel and haven't been there, it is a must see, if you like history as much as I do.

Yes, it's a house on the move!

New Boats and a Historical Sanibel House

The weather has been very nice, still getting rain now and then, the nights have cooled off just a little and, (it may be my imagination), I think there's a feel of Fall in the air.

Today, late afternoon, we went for a drive over to the Marriott Sanibel  Harbor Marina to see how many boats had arrived there for a Regal International Dealer Conference.  The whole marina has been vacated to accommodate the new Regal Boats for this event.

We were out on the water yesterday and it was so pleasant. The water has been very smooth with hardly any waves at all for several days now.

We walked around the docks looking at boats for a while and then stopped in at Charley's Cabana Bar for a   nice tropical drink.

That was when I noticed this big camel shaped cloud. :)

I was (of course) looking at the beautiful clouds
on the way back across the Sanibel Causeway.

And that.......is when I noticed a house that looked like it was moving into the water.  That's right! Wondering what was happening, we drove by there on our way home.

When we reached that street, we ran into a couple of nuts sitting in the middle of the road.  :)

When we saw the name of the street, we began putting two and two together.  We had read an article on the Sanibel-Captiva Islander about the possibility of moving a historical house, called
Shore  Haven, to the grounds of Sanibel Island's

And....there it was!

Shore Haven was no longer on the shore, it was sitting on a barge.

We received a notice from the City of Sanibel that there will be temporary power interruptions, in certain areas, from 10 p.m., Tuesday, October 2nd, through 4 a.m., Wednesday, October 3rd, to accommodate the structural relocation of a historical property known as Shore Haven, from Bird Lane to the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village, located at 950 Dunlop Road. To facilitate the this move, it is necessary for LCEC to temporarily disconnect power lines along the moving route.

It will be interesting to see how this move will be done.
