Cloud Watch Saturday

Becky & Kevin were up before 6 AM and out sitting on the beach, watching the sunrise. The tide was extra low, so they walked out past the sandbar looking for shells. They didn't find anything to keep. After searching for shells a while and going for a walk, they spent another couple of hours sitting in the sun. Late afternoon and evening were spent in the condo relaxing because Becky had quite a lot of back pain and her feet and hands were swollen. She was feeling better by tonight and wants to join the group tomorrow that will have lunch together and hop around the pool bars. They still want to meet more of our island friends.

The temperature today was great. There was a strong breeze and bright sunshine until late afternoon, when the clouds began to move over the island. There was really quite a sky show of fluffy white clouds. For a short time it looked like it could rain, but only sprinkled for a couple minutes and it was over.

Had to make an airport run this evening to pick up friends who were flying in to Ft Myers from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Going over the causeway, the clouds were really pretty. There were lots of people fishing from the shore of the causeway islands and a bunch of people kite surfing. The bright colored kites were very eye catching as they blew back and forth. Sometimes it looks like they are going to get low enough to touch the road in front of you, but they pop right back up again.

I could see the sun setting by looking at the rear view mirror. The clouds around the sun looked orange and red. The clouds ahead, were taking on a pink color and sitting in the cell phone lot the skies gradually got darker.

Run Around Wednesday

After a trip off the island, I took a couple of pictures from the causeway on the return, around 5:00 PM. You can tell from the photos that there wasn't going to be any sunset to see this evening.

It was a little cooler last night and it got up to around 80 today. This afternoon it was cloudy with some scattered showers.

There weren't very many fishermen on the two causeway islands, but there were a few boats out. I didn't see anyone having a picnic; that's unusual. It was windy and the water on the south side of the causeway was very choppy. I could see kites flying again over by the lighthouse, indicating that the kite surfers were back.

Went to Jerry's Restaurant around 6:00 for dinner. I had their pork loin special, it was good, especially the pork and gravy, the rest was ok. I like the breakfast at Jerry's and their prices are very reasonable. Plus you can do some quick grocery shopping before you leave. It is even possible to order your groceries online before
you leave home, to have them ready for you to pick up, or they will deliver them to your vacation destination, all put away and ready for you. Jerry's of Sanibel is located at 1700 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957. 239-472-9300

The grocery store and restaurant are both a part of the small shopping plaza that houses a variety of shops that feature jewelry, clothing, shoes, liquor, art, gift items, vacation and beach supplies, among other things.

In the center of the plaza, on a lower level you will see a beautiful tropical garden, featuring a very pretty water fall and a variety of real tropical birds in cages. They are entertaining, to say the least. Some of them talk and one of them will even whistle a tune for you. That is, if you walk around a corner a just wait a while, listening. I've yet to get the bird to do it while I'm standing there. There are plenty of benches around to sit down for a rest while someone else shops and also a couple of picnic tables in the garden. This is a nice place to take the kids. There is also parking under the building, for those rainy days.

That's the end of another peaceful day in 'Paradise'.

Mellow Monday

Today the weather was wonderful! The sun was shining and the wind was blowing some cooler air. The skies were a bright blue with just a few white clouds scattered around.

My cousin was here this month, staying at her place in Bonita Springs, which is just south of Ft Myers. We made plans to meet for lunch today to catch up on family news.

We had a late lunch at the Sunflower Cafe, #370 Summerlin Square Drive, Ft Myers Beach. Their menu offered a nice variety of foods. Our lunch was VERY good. We both had grouper, fries, mixed vegetables and tossed salad. There were two really large pieces of grouper and we both had to take one of those home with us. Our meal also came with a desert, picked from 3 choices. She had a rice pudding and I had strawberry jello with whipped cream on top. :-) A much bigger meal than I normally eat and it was around $13. Our waitress was excellent. They are open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had heard the food is good there, but hadn't tried it before. I will go back again.

After a little shopping, I came back to the island. As I came over the causeway, I noticed several kites in the air, over by the lighthouse. I drove over there to take a quick video to share with you here. It seemed everyone over on that beach was having a great time. There were several people sitting on a blanket having a picnic and others out swimming. There were 8 or 10 people out on the choppy water kite surfing. I think the wind was giving them a fun ride today.
