Warmer, Sunny Sanibel Sunday

Since we hadn't been to the Lighthouse Beach for a while, we went there this afternoon.  The parking lot was nearly full, with only a few spaces left.  There was quite a variation of clothing choices worn by beach goers today.  Some had bathing suits, bikinis, swimming trunks, shorts, t shirts, long pants and long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts and even light weight jackets.  I saw some people covered up with beach towels and some in bathing suits laying under a blanket.  For me, on this 70 degree afternoon, Bermuda shorts and 3/4 length sleeve t shirt was perfect.  Oops, forgot I was also wearing a dog in a bag accessory. :)

There didn't appear to be many great shells, but they were a little thicker in some areas and by looking closely, I found a few little tiny minis.  Some drills, augers and a painted egg shell cockle.

Sanibel & Seashells

The high temperature today was 63, which suits me just fine.  In the sun it feels plenty warm.  Out in the NNW wind,  by the water, it was a little cool, but not bad at all.

You'll notice that the island folks have on sweatshirts and jeans, but one lady walked past me in a bikini and a man in swim trunks.  I'm thinking they must be from the frozen north.

There has been quite a bit of beach
erosion in this area.

There was an area between access 4 and 5 with a good amount of shells.  There were people out in the water looking and digging.  I asked one man if they were having any luck and he said it wasn't great shelling but they were finding something now and then to keep them going.  I noticed that none of them had many in their shell bags.  But the area sure looked promising!  I picked up a handful, but the nicest thing I had was a big Lace Murex.

Sanibel Beach at Fulgar Street

A little beach time this evening at Fulgar St access.

It was warm in capris and long sleeve t.  Pretty nice day for January.

An ocean of emotion. :)

This reminded me of the question,
'Who lives in a Pineapple Under the Sea'.

There were shells, but nothing great.

There were a lot of people in the Holiday Inn area.

I wish I had been here a few days ago, when the sand art was just made.

This was some sort of sea creature, notice the little curly tail.

The large one was a mermaid
and the closest one, a fish.

Sunday Sanibel Warming

This afternoon we went to resident access 3 on West Gulf Drive.  The sun was out and the temperature had warmed a little to 62, which was nice compared to the 41 degrees and cold wind last night.  It actually felt pretty warm on the beach.

There were some shells in this area and several people were searching as they walked along.  I'm sure there were a lot of nice small ones, but I only picked up 3 small ones, because I didn't walk very far or look too closely.

The reason I didn't spend too much time walking:
Today was the trial to see how Puffin would take to his new carrier pack.  He actually seemed to like it, so I didn't want to keep him in it too long the first time.  It was sure easier to take pictures with both hands, rather than holding him with one arm and the camera in the other hand.  He was constantly wiggling when I was holding him, in the pack he didn't do that. I think maybe he felt a little more secure, plus it was probably more comfortable than when I had a death grip on him to keep from dropping him.

Several of you have asked what kind of dog my Puffin is. He is a Lhasa Apso, weighs 5 lbs and will be 4 months old on Friday. Potty training is going very well, handling his little spit fire temper and getting him to understand he isn't the boss, not so good. But, we're working on that. He lives for his treats, so that makes it all a little easier.

When we got back home, he was happy to run and play with his toys.  After he wore out, he took a little break by laying on the bird's cage covers.

He and Lexus spent a little bonding time together.  Lexus was quite happy to stay in his carrier and talk to Puffin.  I don't think he understood why he got no answer when he kept saying, 'Hello'.

Foggy Sanibel Friday

No, I don't mean "Foggy Friday" as in the day immediately following "Thirsty Thursday", when things seem "foggy" due to being slightly hung over from the previous evening.

I mean foggy, as in areas of dense fog, caused from our warm, humid air and an approaching cold front.  That means some cooler weather this weekend, but things should be warming up again on Monday.

Early this evening we went across the Sanibel Causeway to Ft Myers.  The skies varied from sunny and blue, to hazy or dense fog, depending on which direction you were looking.

By enlarging the photo, you can barely see the two tall buildings in the distance.

Ft Myers Beach is hidden behind dense fog.

On the way back we could see bright sunshine until we reached the Sanibel Causeway.  There we were met by dense fog, no sunshine and you couldn't even see the water from the highest bridge.  It was like that until we reached spoil island B.  The fog was gone and the sun was peeking through the clouds.
