The SanCap Lap

It was a perfect sunny, 78 degrees this afternoon when we decided to go for a drive that turned out to be the Sanibel Captiva Lap.  Our idea of the perfect drive is from Sanibel to South Seas at Captiva, a quick stop at Blind Pass, then back to Sanibel again to Rabbit Rd and over to take the Gulf Drives all the way to the east end of Sanibel.

Tween Waters has their tree up and Santa is on his way up the palm tree again.

Well actually, we did catch him
 taking a break later.

Jensen's Twin Palm Cottages and Marina is ready for the holidays.

By passing the entrance to South Seas, you arrive at a small pay-and-park lot that provides access to the beach. There isn't room for many cars here so you have to get there early during busy times of year. It's just a few feet to the beach where you can walk either north or south.  Looking to the north and South Seas area, it was pretty crowded when we were there.

There were also quite a few people in the other direction, which takes you to the Mucky Duck area.

As we turned to start our drive back, we passed Chadwick’s Square, which is home to several  shops that include Starbucks, Giggles (a unique “kidz” boutique), H20 Outfitters, Regatta, Aqua Swimwear, Footloose, Captiva Blooms floral design and 2 Islands Art Gallery, the Kay Casperson Lifestyle Spa & Salon.  Across the street you can find Holy Smoke Heavenly Barbecue and Better Burgers.

Yes, those are snowflakes you see.  I know, I find it a little strange to see snowflakes here too. :)

Making our way out of the village area.

Honey, I'm home;
could you please open the gate?

We made a quick stop at Blind Pass and Turner Beach.  I checked to see if there were any shells.  There is no drop off ledge there now, and no shells either.

The water was really calm there today.

Over the bridge and back to Sanibel, for the other half of the lap.

The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum will celebrate their 15th anniversary.

On Nov. 20, the Shell Museum will host Family Day, to which the public is invited.  In addition to free admission to all Shell Museum guests, three guest speakers will present special programs in honor of the Museum’s milestone.

The first speaker will be acclaimed author Charles Sobczak, who will discuss the Museum’s first 15 years at 2 p.m.

At 3 p.m., storyteller Kate Adams will take attendees “Under the Sea” with a special program designed for children.

At 4 p.m., Dr. Jerry Harasewych of The Smithsonian Institution will present a program titled, “Shells And The Stories They Tell Us.”

One Hundred Bricks in 100 days – help celebrate our birthday and honor Raymond Burr.  The one hundred bricks would add to the 1000 already in place.

The garden at the entrance to the Museum honors Raymond Burr, who, prior to his death in 1993, spent many hours on Sanibel as benefactor and fund-raiser for the Museum.  He was known around the world as Perry Mason or Ironsides.

You can participate by purchasing a brick for $150. Then, have your name, the name of your business, or the name of a loved one engraved on your brick.

The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is located at 3075 Sanibel-Captiva Road and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For additional information, call the Museum at 395-2233 or go to www.Shell Museum.org.

Another nice daily ride! I'm glad those will be the only kind of snowflakes you see this winter, Tootie! Hugs- Diana

Your beach photos were very soothing tonight. We are about to get a short, but very cold snap (-20 to -30 for two days) and I am going to click on your blog every time it bugs me!
