Rainy Sanibel Afternoon

The high temperature today was 64, after a low last night of 52. Around 2:00 this afternoon, I was driving west on Periwinkle when it began to sprinkle rain. The traffic was already backed up, going off island, back as far as the Island Cow. A short time later, it started pouring down. Up until the time of this posting, we have gotten 0.36", which is less than predicted. It was not a pleasant afternoon to be out, with rain and gusts of wind from the NW up to 33. We also have a high surf advisory.

There were a lot of people at the Sanibel Community Center, trying to set up booths, etc for the Rotary Club Arts & Crafts Fair that is being held this weekend. The weather certainly wasn't helping them out any. Hopefully there will be nicer weather Saturday and Sunday. It is predicted to be mostly sunny and breezy with highs in the low to mid 60s.

I noticed a cute sticker on the back of this SUV. Inside the shape of a dog bone, it says, "My Dog Digs Sanibel". See......everyone likes it here! :)

You can see a lot of cars parked on the left of the photo. Seems as though most of the tourists were using the rainy afternoon for shopping at Periwinkle Place.

Tough afternoon for people preparing for the Arts & Crafts Fair.

The City of Sanibel has issued a Heavy Traffic Advisory for Saturday, February 13th and Sunday, February 14th. In addition to both Valentines Day and Presidents Day falling on the same weekend, two special events will be held on Periwinkle Way this weekend.

Heavy traffic is anticipated along Periwinkle Way from Casa Ybel Road to Tarpon Bay Road due to the following events:

The 27th Annual Rotary Club Arts & Crafts Fair held at the Sanibel Community Association, 2173 Periwinkle Way, on Saturday, February 13th & Sunday, February 14th.

The Farmer's Market being held at Tahitian Gardens, 1975 Periwinkle Way, on Sunday, February 14th.

If you are traveling off the island, it would be wise to add a little extra time.

52 to 64 sounds soooo good to me! Even in the rain.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi Tootie--
Cold and Dreary here on the east coast also. What happened to those average temps in the 70's?? I'm tired of the rain and cold. Your pics of Sanibel look alot like neighborhoods over here. I thought Sanibel was all mansions and millionaires.
Hope to see the sun today-
Have a good one--
Megan
