Sanibel Blue Skies

During a drive to Ft Myers today, I was surprised to see groupings of small palms being planted , which adds to the landscaping project that is being done on 11 miles of Summerlin Road from Gladiolus Drive to Sanibel Island.

There has been much discussion about this, over two million dollar project, which was planned before the recession. Many tax payers were upset with so much money being spent for roadway beautification, when there have been layoffs of fire and emergency personnel, a shortage of school funds, etc. The jobs are being done by local companies, so there is money going into the local economy, which is a good thing. Hopefully, in the end, it will all work out and everyone will be happy with what they see.

On the way back to the island, I was amazed at how blue the sky looked. It had been raining off and on all day and there were still a lot of clouds floating around.

This evening we went to resident access 7 off of West Gulf Dr. This is the one next to The Blue Dolphin Cottages. The beach wasn't too busy, just a few fishermen, a couple shellers and two people swimming. The high temp. today was 87. There was a slight breeze at the beach, but the noseeums were still very bad. There were several places where shells had been trapped and left. I only picked up a couple of small shells, but I imagine if you were out early before anyone else, you might find some good ones. I could tell people had been digging in them because there were a lot of small piles. I think someone must have had a fun shelling day. :-)

Tootie,

I just have to say that I love your blog -- especially when you go to Resident Access 7 by the Blue Dolphin. We've been staying there for about 15 years and coming to your posts allows me to visit my "happy place" all year.

I love Sanibel in the fall, but we were scared off by a few years of dodging hurricanes and switched to the spring. (In fact, when we returned this year and I was catching up on your posts, I saw that you had been at the Blue Dolphin on the day we arrived!) The only difference has been in the shelling, which is not quite as fruitful in the spring.

Anyway, I hope you'll keep on blogging, 'cause it lets me visit Sanibel whenever I need a fix.

Thanks a bunch,

With all those tiny little shells on the beach don't they cut bare feet?

Beautiful as always!
