Another Fine Sanibel Friday

It was another hot day with the temperature reaching 92. It didn't seem quite as uncomfortable as the past few days. The humidity was 71% and I believe that's lower than it was on those days. The gulf water has now reached 90 degrees.

This morning I looked out the window and I saw a large Florida Soft Shell turtle crossing the street. One of my Grandsons made it outside in time to see it. He had never seen one before. I took a picture, but it isn't very good because I didn't zoom. I think this turtle was in a hurry to get to one of the ponds at the golf course, because it wasn't wasting any time. I thought it also acted like the pavement was really hot.

Daughter #2, her husband and daughter wanted to see Siesta Key, so they drove to Sarasota, FL today to take a look around. They also went to Lido Key, which they liked better. Their beaches are known for the whitest and finest sand in the world. They liked the Sarasota area.

The other 3 kids stayed here. They were quite happy with another day on Sanibel and not being onthe road for part of their day. After going to Pointe Santo this afternoon, we went over to West Wind Inn this evening to meet friends for about an hour while the kids went swimming in the pool.

We drove off the island, after the kids said they wanted to make a McDonald's run. I'm going to miss these little trips when they're gone.

Driving over the Sanibel Causeway, we saw clouds over Ft Myers Beach.

Shortly after we got back, there was a mama raccoon in a tree in the back yard. She was encouraging her young ones to follow her. A few seconds later, we counted 5 including Mama. They climbed up as far as they could go and then turned to see us standing there. We watched each other for a couple of minutes and then they went back down the tree and disappeared.

Tootie, were you and your granddaughters taking photos of one another on Lighthouse Beach late Thursday afternoon or early evening? I thought I recognized the girls from the pictures I've seen here on your blog.

Sarasota is where I was at when we went to FL for hockey four years ago. The beach we went to did have the finest and whitest sand I had ever seen (not that I have much to compare it to). It was awesome. How cool is it to have racoons in your backyard? Fun!
