Umbrella Monday

It was a cloudy day in Sanibel, with some rain. The temperature got up to 68.

This afternoon I went to Resident Access #5, even though it had been lightly raining off and on. It might be a little strange, but even if I have to use an umbrella, I like walking on the beach in the rain.

The rain had stopped by the time I reached the parking area at 5, but I thought I would take an umbrella anyway. Good thing I did, because it started raining before I got halfway to the beach. As I walked toward the water, it rained even harder and it was pretty windy. I stopped to do a video when I was about halfway to the water, just in case I had to turn back. It's pretty shakey in the beginning, but it gets a little better. Before you ask.......no there isn't anyone there, popping popcorn. The rain is pretty loud on the umbrella.

There were big waves rolling in, and it seemed to me that the wind was out of the SSW because I had to lean the umbrella in that direction to try to keep the rain from blowing under. There were a lot of gulls and smaller shore birds around.

I walked east for a while, but there were hardly any shells in that direction. It seemed like the wind changed direction and was coming from the SSE, so I turned to go the other way. It looked like there were some shells coming in a little further up the beach and I wanted to check that out. I could only see one other person on the beach and she was coming in my direction. Thank goodness I wasn't the only foolish person out there!

I took a couple more videos and wandered around looking at shells. There were plenty for the taking, but not really anything I wanted. When the lady got near enough, we began talking. As I shared my umbrella with her, we found out that we had a few things in common. She and her husband were staying at Pointe Santo De Sanibel, where my friends own condos. She told me that is their favorite place to stay on the island. They are here for a month and have been coming here for over 8 years. We discussed shelling strategy, kinds of shells we've found etc. She was wet and I was getting that way, so I offered her a ride back to Pointe Santo. Her husand had already left to come pick her up, so she walked back out the beach access with me and we waited there for her ride. He laughed at us when he pulled up and asked if we needed a ride. I was introduced to him and after a short conversation, I bade my new friend (that in order to protect her privacy) I shall call 'Mrs. B', goodbye with the hope we would run into one another on the beach again this week. They will soon have to go back to cold weather at their home near Chicago.

What great looking waves. I'd love to be there shelling over the next few days. Can't wait to see what you find tho.

It's nice to know that a little rain can't keep you from your appointed rounds! (I hope you don't catch cold).

Isn't it fun to meet new people? I can do pretty good chatting with "you all" on blogger, but I'm not so smooth fact-to-face. I'm glad you were, and I hope you see her again this week.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Yes, I do have Sanibel written in my blog. In fact the kids and I leave next week for Sanibel! I can't wait. Especially since today the high is 29! I hope the sun will be out and I look forawrd to the warmer weather.

I have been going to Sanibel since I was a little girl. We went ever year for spring break. It is a piece of heaven on earth. My parents now have a condo there and we are lucky enough to now experience Sanibel with our kids.
