Sanibel's Crafty Weekend

So, you're wondering what is a 'Crafty Weekend' on Sanibel? Well......

This weekend is the 26th annual Rotary Club of Sanibel-Captiva's Arts & Crafts Fair, Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday until 4 PM. The event is ranked third in the state of Florida for it's type. There are expected to be around 6000 people passing through over one hundred displays of arts and crafts at the Sanibel Community Center at 2173 Periwinkle Way. Vendors come from all over the country to display and sell their works of art. Participants are chosen from hundreds applying too be a part of this event. There is also good food to eat.

This is the Rotary Club's only fundraiser; so a $4 donation is suggested. Since 1983 The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club has contributed over $650,000 to help the community, fund local scholarships and give to human service needs world-wide.

If you want to attend, it might be wise to choose your timing carefully. Like coming early and leaving early to avoid the heaviest traffic times. The worst being (in my opinion) between 3:30 and 5:30. Today the fellows directing traffic must have been doing a great job! When I was out on a bike ride around 4:00, it steadily moving.

Looking west on Periwinkle Way.

Looking toward the intersection of Periwinkle and Causeway Boulevard.

If you are on the island and want to check out the arts and crafts, I suggest driving one of these. That's what I did this evening. :-) You'll notice one of the many nice rest areas along a bike path.

This week I was given a new bike with a big cushy seat! I took it for a trial run and found out it needs a couple of minor adjustments, then I'll be ready for a longer ride. I only did about 3 miles today.

Looks like a sofa, doesn't it? :-)
Traffic on causeway.
I had to check out a few shells at the beach at the end of Bailey Road.
It was warm today; shorts and t-shirt weather. The humidity (94%) is still hanging around though, and I could feel the mist in the air.

My VALENTINE post.

That is one fine seat! I'd ride a bike if I had a seat like that.

Wow, what a cushy seat -- I haven't been on a bike since I was 13 (which was a few years back), but that kind of seat could tempt me to try again!

The bike saddle sure looks comfortable compared to the ones on most modern bikes. And white walled tyres too? Wow Tootie, you sure are spoiled! - Dave
