Toasty Tuesday

Today was definitely toasty warm. It was over 80 this afternoon and this evening it didn't cool off as much as it has been. It's 70 degrees here now, at mid-night. I have to keep reminding myself that it's December.

Friends arrived Saturday from Indiana and we met them for dinner tonight at the Hungry Heron. They were telling us how they left home in a snow storm and were so pleased with the weather here.

All of us were very happy with our choices from the menu at the Hungry Heron. I had BQ Ribs and they were very good. Of course, I have to admit that I haven't had many ribs that I don't like, in my lifetime. :-) But, each person had something different and really liked it. Our service was excellent. This place probably has the largest menu around.

The sun had just gone down and this was the view of the sky on the way to dinner.

These are photos of Periwinkle Place. There are about 28 shops here and everything is decorated with clear lights. It's advertised, it is shopping in a park like setting; now it's like shopping in a wonderland. The big trees in the two gardens in the front are simply covered in lights. My photos can't do them justice, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like. There is a little giraffe next to the sign at the street, with a little Christmas package hanging from it's mouth. Very beautiful!

These are the shells I brought home from the beach yesterday.

Toot's: What a neat post, the place looks really neat. The shell collection is special.

We had rain for a day and all the snow is gone. No fear, it is to snow tonight. Have fun at 80F. Thanks for stopping by.

Looks like you got a Stearns cone (not sure on the spelling there) and I love that stripey olive!

Nice Alphabet cone. Nice haul actually. For Alice--decorations are supposed to be down by Jan 9th I think.

80??? I'd have been swimming! I'm not sure I could look at Christmas lights in 80 degree weather! LOL!

Those shells look like mORe than two pockets full! Those stripey ones are GREAT!

Alice, the City of Sanibel regulations for Christmas decorations say they can be put up the day before Thanksgiving through January 9th. The last three years, most have left them up at least until after New Year's Day.

Nice cone shells, Tootie! And a very interesting striped olive type shell. But is it an olive? I tried to look it up, but not certain. Also, am I calling some of my Jasper Cones by the wrong name? We have tried so hard to categorize them correctly. But I think some of the smaller "conches" we found at Lighthouse Beach were maybe jasper cones?

I pink puffy heart your blog! I can't wait to come to Sanibel. 18 days and counting! Sounds like a great shopping spot. And um...it's 12 degrees here. Get me to Florida now! :)

Tink, I don't think it's a Stern's Cone because in the books I have, it looks like the Stern's has tiny circular ridges and little specks of color mingled on it, it also says that it's 1/2. This one is about 1". I'm thinking what we have here is just another variation of the Florida cone.

While researching this one though, I think I figured out what a lot of the little tiny cones are, that I have; Dusky Cones.

I searched and searched for the striped Olive in this picture. I guess it is just a variation of the Lettered Olive.

Little Scraper, my books say that Jasper cones are 1/2" in size, are the ones you have that small? And I think they have the little fine ridges around them too.

You also have to keep in mind that some of the shells have been ground with sand and may not look exactly like the should, in color or in shape, when you find them.
