Tuesday Late Afternoon

Here’s a peek at the beach today at the access 3 location. It was in the upper 80’s with a cool breeze, and gentle waves. There were shells left at all the tide lines. At the highest one there’s still carnage from the rough waves. There were yellow, prickly and Van Hining’s Cockles that were big and not broken; just waiting for a new home. I only carried 5 shells away in my pocket. Two were small orange scallops, one well worn cone and one large piece of an angel wing to save for a friend. The other was a prickly cockle with both halves still attached and it still had prickles. :-) That was it! I think the shelling would have been better for those who got out very early this morning at low tide and earlier this afternoon, just as the tide started going back out. There weren’t many people on the beach, but this is a slow time on the island now. It’s a great time to visit!

This is a special picture for someone who likes these guys. After looking up at those palms, I looked back down at the ground and there it was.

I'm so jealous! We are vacationing in Ocean City, MD for 3 weeks right now -- got here in the midst of Hanna, and on day 3 considered ourselves lucky to find a few clam shells UNbroken. I think the biggest one was about 2" across... maybe 3! My granddaughter found an eeeeeency teency little twisty shell yesterday and was sO excited! And so were WE -- it was MAYBE half an inch long! LOL! We told her not to lose that one - that is was the MOST specialist one ever!!! LOL!

I showed my daughter your blog from the day you had all the shells and the measuring tape... she just sighed! hehehe....

You and Tink are both driving me crazy with all these terrific shell posts. I might have to come and visit you some time so that I can expand my meager collection of shells from that part of the world.

We'll be waiting Bobbie. You have to be ready to come on a moments notice like Tink. :-).

Melli, when you get back from vacation, get in touch; I have a surprise for little granddaughter.

Thanks for this lovely post. I really enjoyed the beach, those beautiful shells; the endless sea and the sound of a cool breeze and gentle waves that you provide us to enjoy through the video clip.
