Tropical Storm Advisory

Tropical Storms Hanna, Ike and Josephine- Advisory No. 1

As we enter September, the most active month of hurricane season, the city of Sanibel reminds all citizens that as residents of the sub- tropics, it is prudent to be aware of weather conditions that may impact Sanibel. The city of Sanibel did experience localized street flooding at several locations as a result of the outer bands of Hurricane Gustav passing over Sanibel.

Those locations include:Fishing Pier Parking LotRoyal Poinciana - Dixie BeachCoconut DriveWoodring PointCastaways Resort.

Tropical Storm Hanna is currently located 650 miles southeast of Sanibel traveling west-southwest near 6 mph. Maximum sustained winds are currently near 70 mph, little change in strength is forecast for the next 24 hours.

Tropical Storm Ike is currently 2,400 miles east of Sanibel traveling west near 16 mph this movement is forecast for the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are currently near 60 mph, with some strengthening expected in the next 24 hours.

Tropical Strom Josephine is currently 3,800 miles east of Sanibel traveling west near 15 mph this general motion is forecast for the next few days. Currently maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph. Tropical Storm Josephine becomes the 10th named storm of this hurricane season.

Looks like it's gonna BE a season! I tend to LOVE hurricanes - because I live WAAAAY north and never get anything but the fringes of them - which is just awesome storms! But I've never been through the MIGHT of one - you'll be in my prayers this season. Just stay safe...
