Treasures that Gustav blew in!

After seeing the change at the Lighthouse Beach, drove out to Blind Pass to take a look. The waves were crashing on the rock jetty. The tide was out now, but you could see that it had been up on a small portion of the parking area on the Captiva side. After walking to the beach on that side and finding no shells at all, went over to the Sanibel side. The tide had been all the way up to the bridge, leaving big swirl marks on the extra sand it left behind. Shells were scattered about, and there were two large piles of shells just waiting for some lucky person to sort through. After a phone call to, 'Good Friend Tink', the sorting began and didn't end until after it was daylight. By that time we had found several bags of keeper shells, had worked up quite an appetite, and were ready to eat!

After a good breakfast at the Sanibel Cafe, there was just one more thing I wanted to do. Went to resident access #3 on West Gulf, made a quick walk out, saw more sand was washed up into the dunes, and there were only a few shells on the beach, at that time. That was a good thing, because everyone was already worn out.

After putting the shells into a bucket for a bleach soak, I went to sleep for most of the day, to dream about what might be found on the next adventure.

(I didn't have my cell phone with me, so had to use a different one to take a few pictures. I did a very poor job of it, and they are not very good.)

I will post pictures of the shells after a good rinsing tomorrow.

Tink has some very nice pictures of the scene at Blind Pass, taken just after daylight. You can hop over there to see those photos and read about her thoughts on our adventure.
