Too MuchTo Do Tuesday

Have you ever had one of those days you just had to clean things you've been putting off for too long? Well, today was my day to do that. It seemed like a perfect time because it was raining anyway. No matter how long I work at it though, it is never enough because I can always see more I should do. I decided I was worn out and needed to quit; after all I have to save some for next time. :-)

I rested for a while and had a nice visit with friends who have come to the island for their yearly visit. It was fun chatting with them because they are so happy about renting a house for 2 months this time. These friends are very dedicated shellers, and find things that elude most of us. :-) I'm sure I'll be sharing news of their treasures later on.

After talking about shells, it got me motivated to start transferring shells from several different containers over to the ratan trunk that I got at Target yesterday. It is 30"X18"X18" and has a lid. I think I will like being able to pile it full of shells. Then when my children, grand children, friends etc come here and don't find enough shells to make them happy, they can go shelling in this trunk. I worked for a couple of hours getting it about 1/3 full. I still have shells I can put in there but those already have poly on them and the ones I put in the trunk don't. I will probably keep them seperated. Anyway, my back is really tired from bending over and my knees hurt from sitting on them so long.

I put all of the extra shells I saved for my crafty friend in a large wicker clothes basket after I emptied it into the trunk. Now when she comes, she can look at them to see if they pass inspection. :-) I'm saving some white shells for her and I put those in a small box. Believe me, that was quite enough shelling for one day! I took pictures of some of the mess I had in the floor as I sorted through the shells. Sometimes it's fun just to dump all the shells out and look through them again anyway, so it was a fun project. Maybe I can make it to the beach tomorrow to look for something I don't have in the trunk. :-)

The flash was way too bright when I tried to take a picture of the shells inside the trunk, but you get an idea what I put in it.

I have been reading about a pink meanie jelly fish that was seen off the coast of Sanibel and how a crab was hitching a ride on it. I thought you might be interested in watching the video taken by a CNN reporter. This was on channel 6 news also. One article said it was a 400 lb jelly, that it can grow to up to 2 feet wide, with tentacles as long as 100 feet. Also stated that they are not usually seen in the Gulf of Mexico. Gee, I hope not, I wouldn't want to run into that thing! I guess that just proves; big water, big critters.

Say what a great subtitle for Tuesday: "Too Much To Do Tuesday". :D

And wow that was a great little video of the pink jellyfish. We've been having a red jellyfish run here.

What a clever idea for displaying your shells -- I will have to remember the trunk idea if I ever get to move (I don't dare add a single thing to this house until it's sold!) Interesting about the jelly - I heard that a lion fish was also seen in the gulf. The waters are changing . . .

And I thought I was a shellaholic!! Wow! I don't hold a candle to you. But, what a great idea--letting your friends and family shell pick right in your living room. I may have to consider that. That will give me an excuse to pick up more shells. LOL.

I am laughing sooooooo hard... it is just UNbelievably amazing the quantity of shells you have amassed! And the beauties that might NOT "pass inspection" for your crafty friend! LOL! TOMORROW I am going to post what I found when I went out "shelling" after our hurricane! You are going to laugh your BUTT off!!! (if it doesn't make you cry!)

I wonder what that crab was DOING on that jelly fish? That seems like strange behavior for a crab, doesn't it? My grandfather used to tell about an aquaintance of his when he was in WWI that dived off a ship they were on THROUGH a Man O'War! The jellyfish was SO big that they couldn't even SEE it from up on the deck of the ship and he just thought he was diving into the water for a swim. Killed him instantly. So yea... they get BIG! But at least the pink meanies you can SEE!

I've often allowed my nieces to go shelling in the closet if they didn't find a lot on the beach while they were here. I have a big vat of shells from vacations past there, just waiting for them to visit.

It's amazing how many shells you have collected. It must be rewarding to walk along the beach and collect shells.
