Saturday On The Beach

After checking out the West Gulf Beach area for a few days, maybe you would like to see what's happening around the east end of Middle Gulf.

Went over to the Fulgur Street access next to Sanibel Siesta, after the rain stopped, around 3:00 PM. Walked from there to Algiers Beach and back again.

It was real windy and the water was a little rough and still a brown color. There was a multitude of people on the beach. I have never seen so many in one area; guess I just haven't been in the right place on a holiday weekend. :-)

Another thing I haven't seen before, were so many birds on the beach. There were swarms of Terns. When people walked past, they would all take flight and then land again.

The shells were scarce and only arks, a few kitten paws, and small scallops, etc. The beach didn't look very good there today. I sure hope conditions improve for those on holiday.

A man was standing in the water fishing with his children in the water right beside him swimming.

This is what remains of a small shell pile.

The dead sea turtle is still on the beach. What a sad sight that is. Looked as though it had been in the water for a long time before it washed ashore.

Another bad day for crabs.

The three people you see walking, had been back and forth on the beach for a long time. They had left Tortuga Beach Club and couldn't find it back. After sending them in the right direction, I remembered back to a time that happened to me and I had been coming to Sanibel for a long timem. It was getting dark out and somehow I passed the place I was staying and after a while I knew I hadn't walked that far, but then didn't know for sure which way to go. Luckily I recognized another place and knew I had to turn around. By that time I still had a long walk back in the dark. It's a good idea to take a moment before you start walking to find a landmark to watch for when you come back.

Tootie, there are still times that I have to look for the Nerita St. sign on our access to know if I'm at the right place or not. And I've been doing this for 10 years! So yes, you need to get your bearings when you go on the beach if you want to find your way home.

Sad about the sea turtle.

Hi Tootie!
I came in to take a break from some "home improvement" and found your post. I'm glad you stopped by for a visit. I love your pictures of Sanibel Island, I've always wanted to go there. I'll stop in again.
