Sanibel West Gulf Beach Visit

After watching it rain off and on today. It seemed like time to check out the beach situation, around 6:30 PM. It was still raining lightly on the way there. The rain stopped as we pulled in to park at beach access one. On the walk up the path, you could hear the loud noise of the waves. As you get to the highest point on the path and get your first look out over the ocean, it is just breathtaking. It doesn't matter how many times I go, I still marvel at the view in front of me.

I took pictures for you, so you can experience what it was like there today. Those of you curious to see what treasures the waves are bringing in, can see for yourselves.

The wind was very strong and blowing sand. You can actually see that in the distance on one picture. A couple people were in the cloud of sand and I could just barely see them.

We had only just started to walk toward the east, when it started raining pretty hard. After running back up part way on the access path, we stood under the big australian pine tree until it stopped.

As we walked back down the slope, we were surprised by a huge rainbow. It appeared to have come up out of the water going skyward and then dropped over toward land. In just a couple more minutes it became a double one. If I had a boat, I could go out to find the pot of gold. There must be buried treasure, right there!

After staying around for a while looking at the rainbow and watching the waves, we decided to drive on over to Blind Pass to see if there were shells coming in there.

A large number of people were there walking around and some were digging around between the big rocks in some small shells that were still trapped in between them. Again, I took pictures so you can see for yourselves what was on the beach.

The sun was getting lower and looked beautiful behind the clouds. By then it was nearly 8:00 so we didn't stay for the sunset. Maybe next time.

(This was looking out before going to the beach and it was still raining.)

I had to stop to look these steps over. I wonder how long they've been here and if the used to be used to get into someones cottage? I imagine there's a story there...

Blind Pass

Maybe in a couple more days, the wind and wave action will bring in the mother load of shells. :-)

Gorgeous pictures. That rainbow was stunning. It looks like the storm took every shell that was on the beach and either buried them or took them back out to sea. Hopefully the waves will cough them back up in a couple of days.

I love all of the photos! I forget just how diverse our country is and how much we don't see here in the midst of the mountains!

Thanks for texting the rainbow pic yesterday. Thinking about making the perilous crossing this evening to check out the lighthouse beach. Will let you know if I decide to come!

I love your walks. The paths are so familiar to me and remind me of the many weeks I've spent there - every photo feels like a home coming. And thanks for reassuring me that I'm not (yet) missing the shelling mother of all low tides!
